Colour can be so powerful and we love the way Howard Hodgkin uses it in his paintings, creating a language all of their own. Despite their apparent spontaneity many of Hodgkin’s paintings take years to complete. He often paints over the frames of his pictures, emphasising the idea of the painting as an object. Hodgkin has recently created a range of abstract, textural and vibrantly coloured painted patterns on cotton and linen fabric for Designers Guild.
